Elizabeth Jones
paintings in oil and cold wax
info
My work reflects my fascination with the way paint and texture dance together across a surface. For as long as I can recall, I have been mesmerized by the intricacies of tree bark, by sun-seared spots on aging leaves, by the dignified tenacity of crumbling plaster, and by the captivating mini-universe that emerges when metal oxidizes. My main vehicle for exploring texture is cold wax and oil. While my paintings do not seek to emulate specific textures per se, this same enchantment remains my launching point for my texture explorations.
I’m fascinated with origin stories.
My goal here was another exercise in duality. I set out to create a serene and seemingly timeless presence who nevertheless evidences the complexity of existence by the texture on the skin

I incorporate earth, sand, or dried flowers that are significant to you in the cold wax of my commissioned paintings to help create the painting's texure.
Examples:
*sand or earth from the exact spot where you accepted a marriage proposal
*the first flower (dried) that your child ever gave you
*earth from the football field where you played that memorable game
*sand from the riverside where you spent your childhood summers
*earth from the grave of a loved one
*sand from a beach where your family meets for reunions
*dried flowers from an important bouquet or arrangement (wedding, homecoming, anniversary, or homegoing)
